We're industrialising the product — not just the process.
Most modular builders in the bio-based sector deliver open or panellised systems that still require significant site completion. Albahuas is engineering a factory-finished, fully closed structural cassette — designed so that every wall, roof, and floor section leaves production complete and ready to connect.
The Technology
How the closed cassette works
Most bio-based modular builders deliver systems that still need significant finishing on site. Albahuas is engineering a factory-finished closed cassette — designed so every wall, roof, and floor section leaves production complete and ready to connect.
CLOSED CASSETTE SYSTEM
Every Albahuas cassette is engineered to leave production factory-finished and airtight by design — eliminating the site completion stage that other bio-based modular systems still require. Manufacturing process validation is underway.
PANEL LOCK CONNECTOR
A rotary connector designed for single-turn cassette connection — no scaffold, no specialist labour required.
OFF-GRID BY DESIGN
Albahuas homes are designed to operate entirely off-grid — hemp and jute insulation throughout, solar integration as standard and screw-pile foundations that work on ground where conventional builders won't go.
Regenerative modular homes for rural Scotland.
Super-insulated, healthy, and designed to live entirely off-grid. Built from hemp. Made in Scotland.
Three homes. One system.
Seed, Stalk, and Canopy — named from the hemp growth cycle. Each built from the same factory-finished cassette system, designed for rural plots, screw-pile foundations, and off-grid living.
Seed — 1 Bedroom
Stalk — 2 Bedroom
Canopy — 5 Bedroom

The Team
Jason Taylor - Director and founder
Jason Taylor is a qualified joiner and Clerk of Works with 18 years of construction experience in the Scottish Highlands. He founded Albahuas Modular to industrialise hemp-based cassette construction — bringing factory-finished performance to rural housing at a price and scale the sector hasn't managed before.
Charles McDonald
Charles McDonald brings 40 years of experience across construction and manufacturing to Albahuas. A military veteran, Charles combines rigorous operational discipline with deep practical knowledge of production systems and build processes — bringing the kind of hands-on leadership that turns engineering concepts into delivered outcomes.
Ewen Jappy - Agricultural & Feedstock Manager
Ewen Jappy is a qualified joiner and former manager at Highland Council, bringing both practical construction skills and operational management experience to Albahuas. As Agricultural and Feedstock Manager, Ewen leads the crofter supply chain. Outside Albahuas, Ewen runs Skelbo Bee Works, a small Highland honey producer.
